The Core Difference

About Having a Osteoarthritis Injection

A targeted, image-guided injection (such as cortisone) delivered directly into an arthritic joint. It is designed to rapidly reduce severe inflammation and provide long-lasting pain relief.

What is an Osteoarthritis Injection?

The skin over the joint is cleaned and numbed. Using real-time ultrasound or CT, the specialist precisely guides a fine needle into the joint space to deliver the anti-inflammatory medication exactly where it is needed most.

How is it performed?

A person's hands writing in an open notebook on a light wood desk, with eyeglasses, a glass of water, a metallic vase with an orange flower, and a small ceramic vase on a tray.

How long does it take?

The procedure itself only takes 15 to 30 minutes.

The local anaesthetic will wear off after a few hours, at which point the joint may feel sore. Our clinical team will advise you on how long you should rest the treated joint and avoid heavy lifting to allow the medication to settle.

After Your Procedure

A "steroid flare" (a temporary increase in joint pain) can sometimes occur for the first 24-48 hours before the relief sets in. However, if the joint becomes extremely hot to the touch, highly swollen, or if you develop a fever, please seek immediate medical attention, as this could indicate an infection.
