Guided Biopsies
We value your time just as much as your health. To help your visit to Core Radiology run seamlessly, here are a few quick things to keep in mind before you arrive.
We know that being referred for a guided biopsy is often a highly stressful time. That is why our specialist medical team is dedicated to providing an incredibly calm, supportive, and humanised environment for the Adelaide community. We take the time to sit down, thoroughly explain the procedure, and answer every single question you have before we begin. Proudly independent and Built for Australians, we offer expert, precise interventional care with a deeply compassionate approach.
The Core Difference
About Guided Biopsies
A minimally invasive procedure where our specialist radiologist uses real-time imaging (like ultrasound or CT) to precisely guide a very fine needle into a specific area to collect a tiny tissue sample for laboratory testing.
What is a Guided Biopsy?
The area is thoroughly cleaned, and a local anaesthetic is applied to numb the skin. Using the imaging screen for pinpoint accuracy, the doctor will guide the needle to the exact spot.
How is it performed?
Around 30 to 45 minutes, plus a short observation period in our clinic afterward.
How long does it take?
Crucial: You must consult your referring doctor before stopping any medications. When booking, inform us if you are diabetic or take blood thinners (like Aspirin or Warfarin). We highly recommend arranging for a family member or friend to drive you home afterward.
Preparation & Medication Check
Our clinical team will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions, including how to keep the site clean and dry. You may experience some mild, localised aching once the local anaesthetic wears off; please consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding suitable pain relief (such as paracetamol).
After Your Procedure
Please contact your GP or visit an emergency department if you develop a fever, notice severe swelling, spreading redness, or experience bleeding from the site that does not stop with gentle pressure.
When to Seek Help
Important Information for your Appointment
