The Core Difference

About Having a CT Scan

What is a CT Scan

A highly advanced imaging test that takes multiple X-rays from different angles to create highly detailed, 3D cross-sectional views of your bones, blood vessels, and soft tissues.

How is it performed?

You will lie on a comfortable bed that slowly glides through a wide, brightly lit ring. Depending on the scan, we may need to administer a contrast dye (via a small injection in your arm) to help highlight certain tissues.

A minimalist desk scene with a person writing in a notebook, a pair of glasses, a glass of water, a metallic vase with an orange flower, a small white vase on a round platform, and a framed photo on the wall.

How long does it take?

Between 10 and 20 minutes.

You may be asked to fast (stop eating and drinking) for a few hours before your appointment. Our team will provide exact instructions when you book.

How to prepare & what to wear

Risks & Side Effects

CT scans involve a very low, safe dose of radiation. If contrast dye is used, you may feel a brief warm flush or a metallic taste in your mouth, this is normal and passes quickly.

After Your Scan

If you were given a contrast dye injection, our clinical team will usually advise you to drink plenty of water for the rest of the day to help your body naturally flush it out. While incredibly rare, delayed allergic reactions to contrast dye can happen. If you experience mild itching or a rash, contact your GP. If you experience facial swelling or any difficulty breathing after leaving the clinic, seek immediate emergency medical care.

Important Information for your Appointment

The information provided on this page is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. While we are experts in diagnostic imaging, your referring doctor is the expert on your overall health. We always recommend speaking with your doctor before proceeding with any medical scan or procedure to ensure it is the right diagnostic path for you, and to discuss any specific aftercare requirements.

  • To ensure a smooth and easy check-in, please remember to bring:

    • Your valid doctor’s referral

    • Your Medicare card, plus any Concession, Pension, or DVA cards

    • Any previous X-rays or scans relating to the area we are examining

Because Medicare rules can sometimes be complex, we strongly encourage you to contact our team prior to your visit, or simply ask our reception staff on the day of your appointment.

We will always provide you with a completely transparent fee estimate based on your specific referral so there are never any financial surprises.

  • Once your scan is complete, our specialist Radiologist will carefully analyze your images. Using our secure, state-of-the-art digital systems, we ensure your comprehensive report and high-resolution images are sent directly and rapidly to your referring doctor.

We always recommend booking a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results and the next steps in your care.

  • We understand that navigating healthcare can be challenging, and some patients require a little extra support.

If you experience medical anxiety, have mobility challenges, or simply need more time and space to understand your procedure, please let us know.

Our compassionate team is highly experienced in supporting complex needs and will adapt your visit to ensure you feel completely safe and understood.
