General X-Ray

We value your time just as much as your health. To help your visit to Core Radiology run seamlessly, here are a few quick things to keep in mind before you arrive.

The Core Difference

We know that needing a general X-ray can sometimes be a bit stressful, especially when you are in pain and need answers fast. That’s why we focus on what matters most to our South Australian community: walk-in appointments, zero wait lists, and accessible bulk billing to keep your out-of-pocket costs down. Whether it's a suspected fracture or a chest X-ray, our local Adelaide team takes the time to make you comfortable. We’re proud to offer fast, top-tier, compassionate healthcare that is Built for Australians, right here in South Australia.

Having a General X-Ray

A quick, painless diagnostic test that uses a very small amount of radiation to capture high-resolution images of the dense tissues inside your body, such as bones, joints, and the chest.

What is a X-Ray

What happens during my x-ray (How is it performed)

You will stand or lie flat between the X-ray machine and a digital detector. Our radiographer will gently position you and ask you to stay perfectly still (and sometimes hold your breath for a few seconds).

How much does it cost? Do you Bulk Bill?

At Core Radiology, we’re proud to offer bulk billing for most of our X-ray services to help keep your healthcare affordable. This means if you have a valid referral from your doctor, there may be no out-of-pocket cost for your scan, just be sure to chat with our friendly team about any costs when you book your appointment.

Do I need an appointment?

No appointment is required for general X-rays! Simply walk in with your referral.

How long does it take?

Usually only 5 to 15 minutes.

How to prepare & what to wear

No special preparation is required. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You may be asked to remove jewelry, glasses, or clothing with metal zippers and buttons.

Pregnancy Check

While X-rays are incredibly safe, please inform our staff immediately prior to your scan if there is any chance you might be pregnant.

Important Information for your Appointment

The information provided on this page is for general guidance only and does not replace professional medical advice. While we are experts in diagnostic imaging, your referring doctor is the expert on your overall health. We always recommend speaking with your doctor before proceeding with any medical scan or procedure to ensure it is the right diagnostic path for you, and to discuss any specific aftercare requirements.

  • To ensure a smooth and easy check-in, please remember to bring:

    • Your valid doctor’s referral

    • Your Medicare card, plus any Concession, Pension, or DVA cards

    • Any previous X-rays or scans relating to the area we are examining

    • WorkCover or Motor Vehicle Accident claim details (if applicable)

  • Any Referral is Valid: You have the right to choose your imaging provider. We proudly accept all valid referrals, even if they are printed on another clinic’s form or letterhead.

  • We proudly offer Bulk Billing for a wide range of Medicare-eligible examinations. However, some highly specialised scans and interventional procedures do incur an out-of-pocket gap fee. Because Medicare rules can sometimes be complex, we strongly encourage you to contact our team prior to your visit, or simply ask our reception staff on the day of your appointment.

We will always provide you with a completely transparent fee estimate based on your specific referral so there are never any financial surprises.

  • Once your scan is complete, our specialist Radiologist will carefully analyse your images. Using our secure, state-of-the-art digital systems, we ensure your comprehensive report and high-resolution images are sent directly and rapidly to your referring doctor.

We always recommend booking a follow-up appointment with your doctor to discuss your results and the next steps in your care.

  • We understand that navigating healthcare can be challenging, and some patients require a little extra support.

If you experience medical anxiety, have mobility challenges, or simply need more time and space to understand your procedure, please let us know.

Our compassionate team is highly experienced in supporting complex needs and will adapt your visit to ensure you feel completely safe and understood.
